I made a mini-documentary about Alden Shoe, one of the few American footwear companies that still produces shoes in the US.

Bloodfeast rocked!

Thanks to everyone who came out to Bloodfeast on Saturday night!

I saw so many people who I wanted to say hi to and dance with...and then it seemed like...*boom*, the night was over, and I never got the chance to. The night went by too quickly.

Here's one of the many highlights of the evening. I shot this video from the DJ booth, during the amazing performance by [:angeldustrial:].

In this particular clip, you'll see Sarah shoving the guy who randomly wandered up on stage and rudely attempted to interrupt their show.

(You'll also hear me saying something like, "What the hell - who is that?" and see that I momentarily lost my steady hand, and accidentally panned away from the stage :-( ...and, as a result, I missed the moments when Bobby and Andy swiftly sprung into action and pulled the rude guy down to the floor.)

More videos to come. I'm going through the footage, and I'll be posting more soon....stay tuned.

Wheelchair softball

Last week I wrote a story about a nationally-ranked wheelchair softball team.... and then I interviewed two of the players on TV a few days ago. You can watch the video clip here.

The guys from the team have challenged the Globe newsroom to a wheelchair softball scrimmage. They said they'll lend us wheelchairs to use in the game. I'm recruiting my colleagues to play.....and hopefully we'll hold a little exhibition game in August.

I was contacted by a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Southern California, who said she had stumbled across my videoblog and liked one my clips. She thought it fit with one of the festival's themes: "Making the Familiar Unfamiliar: The Importance of Physical Place in the Vlogosphere."

Boston Media Makers

I attended my first Boston Media Makers meeting last weekend. And it was awesome.

It was great seeing so many fellow videobloggers and podcasters in person, and hearing about the projects they're working on. I arrived late, and could only stay for an hour and a half...but after the meeting, I had the opportunity to catch what I'd missed through everyone's blogs. Seriously, the coverage of the meeting was impressive: Bryan Person blogged about the meeting; Beth Kanter made a video; David Tames provided an excellent roundup of what was discussed; Chris Brogan snapped photos; Steve Garfield wrote up notes from the meeting......and I'm sure other attendees have blogged about it, too.

I found an old video clip of The Rat in Kenmore Square...it was featured on some show back in the 1980s. Check it out...you'll see the Dana Hersey (the voice of WSBK TV-38) hanging out with the Rat's bouncers, and then goes over to the Pizza Pad.

Videobloggers and filmmakers can submit these little videos about a particluar neighborhood or place, and they get paid for 'em...pretty cool idea.

...they have wicked short films about all kindsa places, and Boston is one of 'em... take a look...

I play ice hockey once a week for a team called the Phantoms. I love our team, but our uniforms are hideous. Our jerseys are a weird aqua-bluish green color, with purple trim. I'm hoping we'll get new uniforms next year. Black with kelly green trim would look waaay better.

E-Ink....and video?

A Belgian newspaper is testing out a portable, lightweight newspaper that uses "electronic ink" technology. This kinda thing could allow the newspaper to update itself with the latest news - while it's in your hands.

This technology was developed by some forward-thinking cats from MIT's Media Lab. They started a company called E Ink. I'm so intrigued by this, I hope other newspapers are looking into it. Imagine how nice it would be to have interactive features built right into the newspaper -- say, when you touch the photo from last night's Bruin's game, it starts moving and you could watch a video clip of the game.

I work out of a news bureau in the 'burbs. We have a lot of woods around our little office building, and some nice walking paths. One day, one of my colleagues was walking around there and noticed a very large hole in the ground, back there in the woods. We don't know who dug this ditch - or why they would bother - but this hole keeps getting bigger. Very strange.

Whenever anyone goes back there, Sandy (who sits in the cube next to me) warns them not to go and jokes that they'll never come back.

well...I shot a few rounds tonight.
The Second Amendment Sisters held a Valentine's Weekend shoot and potluck dinner at the Boston Gun & Rifle Association in Dorchester.

Hard to believe, but this gun range is only a few blocks away from my house...tucked away on a side street next to the Fields CornerMBTA train station, right here in the middle of my 'hood.

I had no idea it existed, until these Sisters showed me the place. They're a great bunch, they've showed me the ropes of handling firearms. I also took a gun safety class there...I want to take the full course very soon.

I love vintage scooters. Back in high school I was a crazy ska girl who fantasized about owning a Vespa. I still want one....

On a recent day off, I drove to Billerica to visit Jason Ciolfi, the cool cat who runs a vintage Vespa shop called Boston Scoot.
